Abstract:The Olympics is a major global sporting event of eminent standing, often imbued with cultural symbols. All athletes want to actively strive for glory, which drives the governing bodies of many sports to push hard for official recognition. Traditional dragon boat racing is a water sport with deep roots in Chinese culture. It has now transformed into a race with championships and tournaments held in various countries. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to discuss the development, history and current status of dragon boat racing, and to explore the difficulties and future prospects towards the Olympics. The results show that many dragon boating-related organizations have been established in the world, and many global competitions have been held. Dragon boat racing served as a demonstration event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics, and hopefully can become an official competition event in the future. The conclusion of this article is that dragon boat racing is suitable for everyone, and offers intrinsic benefits such as embodying the Olympic spirit of teamwork, promoting regular exercise for physical and mental health, promoting an understanding of cultural values, and furthering sports development. It is suggested that in the future we should find suitable practice and competition venues, solve the audience problem, establish a sound long-term competition system, and garner additional policy support, so as to increase the population of dragon boating, increase the exposure of international competitions, gain the favor of more countries and the International Olympic Committee, and allow dragon boat racing to enter the Olympic arena.
