Abstract：After years of effort, the World Association for Sport Management (WASM) was founded in Taiwan in 2012, in cooperation with six continental associations of sport management from around the world. The Department of Sport Management of Aletheia University was honored to play a key role in its establishment. It is worth noting that WASM was registered in Taiwan, so its secretariat is Taiwanese. The purpose of this article is to examine the process of establishment, current issues and future challenges of WASM through literature review. This article concludes that there is a lack of consensus regarding the direction of WASM's future development, given the multiple cultural backgrounds of its members. The article suggests Taiwanese executives should remain on the executive board of WASM, serving as its secretariat, in order to learn and to cultivate more international sports experts. WASM should conduct more research to stimulate more discussions for developing its vision and strategies. (Full text)
